Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing from a catalog this wide raises a predictable set of questions.

Choosing Between Products

OR93BL, FJ1, or Flak Jacket Pro — how do I decide?

By what hits the coating. If the job is corrosion protection and nothing is being driven on or dumped into it, OR93BL is the right product and the best cost per square foot. If the surface takes impact — truck beds, equipment decks, hail-exposed roofs — step up to FJ1. If the coating itself is the wear surface, meaning aggregate, ore, or scrap is moving across it, that is Flak Jacket Pro.

When do I need 7001 Primer and when can I skip it?

On properly blasted steel you can usually go direct. On anything else — concrete, wood, galvanized, TPO, EPDM, previously coated surfaces — prime it. 7001 also stops bleed-through from an unknown existing finish, which is why it is standard on restoration work even where adhesion alone might not require it.

OR-55 or OR-75DCL for a floor topcoat?

Both are finish and wear layers over the OR-621 basecoat; the choice comes down to the build and appearance the job calls for. Tell us the environment — residential garage, commercial kitchen, warehouse aisle, decorative flake — and we will spec the topcoat rather than making you pick blind.

Closed-cell or open-cell foam?

Closed-cell for R-value per inch, air sealing, vapor control, structural stiffening, and anything exposed to moisture — which includes essentially all agricultural, industrial, and roofing work. Open-cell for cost-efficient cavity fill and sound attenuation in conditioned interior assemblies. Open-cell is vapor permeable, so the assembly design has to account for it.

Ordering & Packaging

Can I mix sub-lines on one order?

Yes. That is the main practical reason to buy from a single catalog. Roof membrane, floor topcoat, primer, and foam can all ship on the same purchase order to the same address.

How do I calculate how much material a job takes?

At 100% solids, one gallon yields 1,604 mil-sq-ft. Divide by your target DFT to get square feet per gallon — 1,604 ÷ 60 mil ≈ 27 sq ft per gallon. Add 10–15% for overspray and surface profile, more on blasted steel or rough concrete. Send us the square footage and the spec and we will run it for you.

Do you sell to end users or only to the trade?

Both. The catalog is available at retail to end users and at tiered wholesale to contractors, applicators, dealers, and distributors. Mention your region and volume and the correct schedule comes back with the quote.

Is private-labeled packaging available across the whole catalog?

Yes — every item can ship as WatchGuard or under your own brand, with the technical data sheets, safety data sheets, and application guides included. Private-labeled packaging runs on a production schedule, so plan lead time ahead of your busy season.

Application & Equipment

Does the whole catalog need a plural-component rig?

No. The polyurea products and both foams require a proportioner with a heated hose — Graco Reactor E-20 or E-30 class or equivalent. Several floor system components, primers, and Concrete Mender apply with conventional equipment. A floor contractor can run a large part of this catalog without ever buying a rig.

What prep standard applies to steel?

SSPC-SP6 commercial blast at a 2–4 mil angular profile for new or heavily corroded steel — that is the spec behind the >500 PSI adhesion figure. SSPC-SP3 power-tool cleaning is acceptable for maintenance overcoating of sound, tightly-adhered rust. In salt service, verify chlorides below 7 µg/cm² before coating anything.

What prep applies to concrete?

Mechanical profile to CSP 3–5 by diamond grinding or shot blasting, and verify moisture vapor emission before coating. Acid etching is not a substitute. Repair spalls, joints, and cracks with Concrete Mender before the basecoat goes down.

How soon can a coated surface go back in service?

Polyurea is tack-free in 10–30 seconds and typically back in service the same day — often within the hour for equipment and fleet work. Floor systems generally take foot traffic the next day and vehicle traffic shortly after, depending on the topcoat and ambient conditions.

Not Sure Which Line Item You Need?

Describe the job. We will pick the products, write the spec, and run the coverage math.
